About

A succession practice built for private firms

Haven Base Succession Advisory Pty Ltd was established in 2011 in Laura, South Australia. We advise owners who want succession plans that respect family relationships, staff loyalty, and the firm’s trading rhythm.

Origin

The practice began when regional principals kept asking the same question after informal coffee chats: who actually runs this firm when I am gone, and who owns it? Early work focused on family-held manufacturers and retailers across the Mid North and wider South Australia. Over time, engagements expanded to private firms interstate that wanted the same grounded approach — interviews first, documents second.

Today the registered business name is Haven Base Succession Advisory Pty Ltd. We remain deliberately small so senior advisors stay in the room for discovery, workshops, and handover briefings.

Working approach

We separate ownership questions from day-to-day control early. We write decisions down. We invite mild disagreement into facilitated sessions rather than letting it surface after share papers are signed. Travel to firm premises is normal for regional clients; remote sessions supplement, they do not replace, the first round of interviews.

Values in practice

  • Clarity over haste — provisional successors before rushed transfers
  • Respect for staff who will live with the handover daily
  • Honest fit — we decline work when legal or tax advice is the only need
  • Confidentiality between family members until joint sessions are agreed
